BL-132-20 Automatic Controller for Pools and Hot Tubs with Cloud Connectivity

The BL-13X series of pool dosers and controllers offer a different option compared to manual measurement and dosing processes, with around-the-clock monitoring and automatic logging for consistent sanitation. The BL-131 controller for pools measures and controls the pH and free chlorine levels within the water, utilising the ORP or REDOX principle as a consistent and accurate indicator of sanitiser effectiveness. The BL-132-20 includes a flow cell.

If you would like to learn more about the BL-132 cloud-connected pool controller for pools, spas and hot tubs, contact our pool experts at sales@hannainstruments.co.uk or 01525 850 855. We can provide guidance and advice on the best solution for maintaining sanitation.

About the BL-132 Controller

Built-in dosing pumps with proportional band and adjustable flow

Two built-in peristaltic dosing pumps are included with the BL-132. These pumps have proportional control functionality, enabling the dosing frequency to be adjusted to the size of the body of water for effective maintenance of the pH and ORP set point. A full-size pool can use a smaller proportional band, such 0.1 pH, for higher frequency dosing, while a controller installed on a hot tub can be configured with a larger proportional band, such as 1.0 pH, to prevent larger swings in water chemistry.

Adjustable flow rate allows for further adaption on the BL-131, with a range from 0.5 to 3.5L/h. Adjustable flow enables control over the amount of chemical that is dosed at one time, reducing the possibility of significant changes in ORP or pH.

Connect with Hanna Cloud

Hanna Cloud is fully compatible with the BL-132 pool controller, providing cloud connectivity via a web-based application. Measurements and data storage are easily accessed directly from a tablet, phone or PC, with the ability to store information from multiple devices in a single account.

Measurements, history, device settings, alarms and notifications are available through a dashboard, providing information about the BL-132 and any other connected instruments at a glance. This up-to-date information allows you to keep track anywhere without the need to connect physically to the controller.

Alarm and notification system

A comprehensive notification and alarm system is included with the BL-132 pool controller. This includes a multicoloured LED indicator system for dosing, meter status and service, providing live feedback. A fully programmable alarm system allows the setting of both high and low levels for pH and ORP. If the water chemistry exceeds these limits, dosing stops, protecting against overdosing.

A temperature sensor is also included with the BL-132 probe, which allows for temperature alarms. This alarm functionality is valuable for outdoor hot tubs and pools, where the controller can provide notification that there may be a risk of water freezing in the pipe system.

Interlocking sanitation control

pH and ORP are measured in tandem with the BL-132. Before chemicals are introduced to increase or reduce ORP, the pH value must first be at the defined set point. A range of 650-750 mV at 7.2 pH indicates proper water sanitation. By first utilising the pH value, controllers in the BL-13X series can reduce the costs associated with the overuse of chemicals.

Customisable logging intervals

The BL-132 features full data logging, with a range of measurement reading intervals to choose from to suit personal preference or meet compliance regulations. Measurement reading intervals can be set to 30 seconds, 1 minute, 5 minutes, 15 minutes, 30 minutes or 1 hour, refreshing each day or following calibration. ORP, pH and temperature are all logged, plus the last calibration data, event information and setup configuration.

Additional external dosing options

The BL-132 can be used for larger pools with the inclusion of 2 relays. These relays can be connected directly to external, larger dispensing pumps. This provides greater flexibility, allowing controllers in the BL-13X series to be used to dose pools of a wide range of sizes.

Achieve HSG282 compliance

The BL-131 and BL-132 controllers for hot tubs, spas and pools help businesses comply with HSG282. Under the HSE's 2017 legislation, both sanitation and pH levels should be continually logged and stored to help reduce the risk of legionella and other pathogens. Learn more about HSG282 here.

About the HI-1036-18XX Digital Probe

The HI-1036-18XX is a digital combined probe available in five different cable lengths. This probe connects to the BL-132 and measures ORP, pH and temperature, with a potential matching pin incorporated for grounding purposes, preventing ground loop effects that may cause system damage.

The pH glass for this probe produces stable quick equilibration even in low-conductivity waters. The sensor is designed to produce a zero mV value near pH 4 to stop process control if it is broken. This triggers an alarm state and stops the relevant pump.

The ORP sensing surface of the probe is a large, smooth-surfaced platinum band that encircles the circumference of the temperature probe. It is referenced to the Ag/AgCl reference electrode (3.5M KCl).

The ORP and pH sensors and reference electrode utilise a differential measurement technique. This technique is known to stay in service and provide accurate measurements under a wide range of circumstances that may cause conventional pH probes to produce less accurate measurements.

The following options are available for the HI-1036-18XX:

  • HI-1036-1802 probe with 2 m (6’7”) long cable
  • HI-1036-1805 probe with 5 m (16’5”) long cable
  • HI-1036-1810 probe with 10 m (32’9”) long cable
  • HI-1036-1815 probe with 15 m (49’3”) long cable
  • HI-1036-1820 probe with 20 m (65’7”) long cable
