HI-981304
Measure three important parameters for pool water chemistry with the HI-981304 pH, EC and TDS Tester. This compact tester allows you to measure directly from the water of the pool or hot tub, with a long battery life and convenient size for storage and for carrying on-site to multiple locations. This meter is also waterproof and floats for easy recovery if it is dropped in water.
HI-981304 pH, EC and TDS Pool Tester
The HI-981304 is a pocket-sized, easy-to-use solution for measuring pH, EC and TDS in pools, spas and hot tubs. This simple digital tester for pool water allows you to check the water directly, with no need to remove a sample from the water to get accurate readings. A digital tester is an ideal alternative to pool test strips to ensure precise accuracy when dosing your water.
Consistently testing the water in swimming pools is key to reducing chemical costs while also preventing under and over-dosing of sanitation. pH, in particular, has a direct impact on the effectiveness of chlorine. Measuring pH before you measure chlorine can allow you to bring it into the correct range, reducing the need for additional chemicals. HI-981304 features
High accuracy
The HI-981304 features a graphite conductivity probe for readings of EC and TDS, providing greater accuracy as it cannot be contaminated by salt deposits. The temperature sensor included in the probe ensures a fast response time for testing with temperature-compensated readings. The accurate pH electrode is in a cartridge form and can easily be replaced thanks to its unique ‘snap in’ design.
Battery functionality
This pool tester can take measurements for up to 300 hours before the 1.5V batteries require replacement. Additional features ensure that battery life is preserved, including an auto shut-off functionality. A Battery Error Prevention System is included with the HI-981304 pool tester, automatically shutting off the meter if there is not enough power to achieve an accurate measurement.
Calibration and Storage
The HI-981304 is easily calibrated using Hanna’s calibration sachets, ensuring continual accuracy when testing in the field. A storage solution can be added to the specially designed protective cap of the pool meter, keeping the pH sensor moist for a longer lifespan and accuracy in pH testing your pool.
Achieve HSG282 compliance
Do you have a holiday home or offer your customers commercial hot tubs or spa pools? If you want to be HSG282 compliant, Hanna Instruments' pH testers are an ideal solution. Our simple-to-use instruments make it effortless to take twice-daily pH readings for full HSG282 compliance, protecting you and your business against legal risk and potential negative reputation.
Since 2017, the HSE has provided clear guidelines to help businesses avoid guest and employee sickness. Legionella, e-coli and a range of other nasty pathogens thrive in hot tubs and pools' warm, agitated waters when they are not properly sanitised.
Measuring pH with a suitable HSG282 pH tester ensures you meet those guidelines, keeping your customers safe and your business risk-free. The HI-981304 allows you to easily read pH alongside TDS, providing clear and accurate information to help you keep your hot tub water balanced.

FAQs
How does a pool tester work?
Pool pH testers and combination EC, TDS and pH testers from Hanna’s Pool Line can be dipped directly into the pool water to take measurements. This makes testing easier and ensures accuracy by reducing the risk of using old water samples. To be as accurate as possible, take your reading near the centre of the pool. Learn more about how to test pools here.
What should the pH range be for my pool?
The typical pH range for most pools to stay within is between 7.2 and 7.6. This range provides the ideal conditions for effective sanitation, keeping the pool water safe for swimmers. Before introducing chlorine chemicals, it’s important to take a pH reading and check if the pH is within the correct range. This can help reduce chemical costs and prevent the need for remediation. Learn more about the parameter ranges for pools here.
