HI-782
The HI-782 Marine Nitrate Checker provides an accurate, practical solution for the measurement of nitrate in saltwater tanks. A high range digital nitrite tester allows you to measure and quickly respond to any change in nitrite levels in marine aquariums, with clear on-screen information to take action and reduce nitrates in your aquarium quickly, preventing old tank syndrome.
The Hanna Nitrate HR Checker is part of our Checkers range for digital water quality measurement in aquariums.
HI-782 High Range Nitrate Checker
The HI-782 Checker is an accurate electronic tester for the measurement of high range nitrate within marine aquariums. This practical handheld Checker covers a comprehensive range of nitrate, with single-button operation for fast testing and no requirement for filtering, providing insight into the nitrate level within your fish tank.
The HI-782 nitrate digital tester covers the high range of nitrates in saltwater aquariums, from 0.0 to 75.0 ppm as NO3–. A single, included AAA battery is required for operation, with an additional power-off feature that triggers after 10 minutes of inactivity, prolonging battery life.
Why measure nitrate?
Nitrate is a key part of the nitrogen cycle, the mechanism where waste produced by the fish and corals are converted from ammonia to nitrite to the end product, nitrate. While nitrate is not toxic to fish in the same way as nitrite, build-up of this parameter can lead to algae, cyanobacteria, and dinoflagellates growth, which may outcompete the coral within your aquarium. High nitrate levels may also indicate higher phosphate levels, leading to odours and staining in your fish tank.
Measuring the nitrate level in your tank with the HI-782 digital nitrate Checker allows you to quickly see differences in the levels of nitrates, with clear on-screen digital results. Checkers don’t require personal perception to determine the results of testing fish tank parameters, enabling fast response to make changes for balanced water chemistry in your aquarium.
How does the HI-782 work?
The HI-782 uses the zinc reduction method for testing, specifically development for use with salt/seawater and with no requirement to filter the sample before testing, In this method, that reagents provided with the nitrate Checker are introduced to the sample vial, creating a measurable reaction. The reaction between nitrate and the reagent causes a pink tint, which is read by the Checker to provide a digital readout in parts per million.
The HI-782 includes a reagent starter kit with reagent for 10 tests, allowing you to start testing nitrate levels in your saltwater fish tank straight out of the box.
Four steps to test
1. ‘Zero’ the Checker with your vial & 10 ml water sample inside
2. Take your vial out and add your reagent
3. Place your vial into your Checker
4. Press the button and read the results
Checkers vs test strips
Many aquarium owners choose test strips as an affordable way to measure key marine aquarium parameters. While testing strips can give a general idea of the levels of nitrate, they require personal perception to determine testing results. Hanna Checkers remove the guesswork required for testing, with a clear, accurate digital display in ppm.
