HI-7660 Low Range Turbidity Probe with 10m Cable
HI-7660-2810
HI-7660 is a nephelometric turbidity probe for low turbidity values up to 400 FNU, designed for use with Hanna’s HI-510 and HI-520 Process Controllers.
An integral temperature sensor measures water temperature during turbidity readings, adjusting the probe signal as required. This is the version of the HI-7660 with a 10m cable.
It is recommended to combine the HI-7660 with the HI-7676602 flow cell to eliminate ambient light effects and achieve consistent sample pressure for accuracy in testing for water treatment, drinking water and water quality applications.
HI-7660 Low Range Turbidity Probe with 10m Cable
HI-7660 is a turbidity probe designed to measure low values according to the nephelometric method (ISO 7027 – EN 27027). The HI-7660 is suitable for the measurement of water across a range of industries and applications, including water treatment, water quality, drinking water and desalination.

This probe is specifically designed for use with the HI-510 and HI-520 process controllers from Hanna Instruments, adding to the range of specialised probes available for these controllers. The unit of measurement for the HI-7660 is FNU, with a range from 0 to 400 FNU.
Three lengths of cable are available for the HI-7660 to suit different requirements:
The probe features an integrated temperature sensor that measures and adjusts the probe signal within a range of 0 °C to 50°C, displaying both measurements simultaneously on the connected controller.
The HI-7676602 flow cell is a recommended accessory for HI-7660 probes, as most applications require installation within a pressurised flow cell. This flow cell eliminates ambient light from the samples and maintains pressure while minimising out-gassing, providing a higher degree of accuracy by reducing a key cause of measurement error.
HI-7660 features
Designed for HI-51X Series Process Controllers
The HI-7660 is specifically designed for use with Hanna’s HI-510 and HI-520 Process Controllers, providing an accurate and reliable way to monitor the turbidity in water across a range of applications. This turbidity probe is part of a wider range of different probes designed for easy, accurate monitoring of different key parameters.
Built-in temperature sensor
An integral temperature sensor offers both accurate measurement and compensation for the testing of turbidity, improving the accuracy of readings from the HI-7660. On measurement of temperature, the probe signal is adjusted to account for any changes between the ranges of 0 °C to 50°C.
Stored digital calibration data
As a digital probe, the HI-7660, in combination with a HI-5X0 Process Controller, can store and maintain vital data. This includes calibration data: calibration date and time, turbidity calibration standard, offset, and slope. The probe stores the model, firmware version and serial number for easy retrieval.
ISO 7027-compliant sensors
This probe uses the nephelometric method for measuring turbidity. The ISO 7027 compliant sensors use a near-infrared light-emitting diode, or LED, to eliminate colour interference when testing. This probe adheres to ISO 7027 – EN 2702 standards.
Calibrated at the factory
This probe is pre-calibrated before it leaves the factory, making it ready for use immediately on arrival and installation. Depending on your application and volume of usage, your requirement for calibration after installation may vary. Speak to our experts directly to discuss the calibration process for your specific requirements.

These controllers can be fully customised to monitor pH, ORP, conductivity, dissolved oxygen and turbidity. To learn more about these advanced controllers, contact our experts directly.
About the HI-7676602 Flow Cell
The HI-7676602 Flow Cell is recommended for use with the HI-7660 probe for accuracy and reliability in measurement. This accessory for the turbidity probe includes a locking collar, probe adaptor, wall-mounting bracket and an inlet-outlet tube. Learn more about it here.
FAQs
What industries is the HI-7660 turbidity probe suitable for?
In combination with the HI-510 or HI-520 universal process controller, this turbidity probe is suitable for a wide range of industries and applications related to water, including:
- Wastewater management
- Water treatment
- Drinking water monitoring
- Desalination processes
- Water quality monitoring
Do you need the flow cell with the HI-7660?
It is highly recommended that you install the HI-7660 with the HI-7676602. Using the flow cell minimises sample out-gassing, eliminates ambient light and provides consistent sample pressure for accurate measurement.
If you’d like to know more about whether a flow cell is important for the measurement of low turbidity values in your process, contact our experts directly.
What options are available for the HI-7660?
The HI-7660 low-range turbidity probe is available in three cable lengths to suit different application environments:
What method does the HI-7660 use for turbidity measurement?
This turbidity probe uses the nephelometric method (ISO 7027 – EN 27027) for the measurement of low turbidity values.
To take a measurement, a light beam from an infrared source is sent through an optical window found on the probe into the water sample. This light is scattered by suspended particles within the sample. The 90° scattered light is reflected through a second window on the probe, where it is converted to an electrical signal that is proportional to the turbidity of the standard or sample. The unit of measurement for the HI-7660 is FNU.
