HI-10480 pH Edge Electrode for Wine

The HI-10480 is a smart pH electrode for use with the HI-2020 Edge hybrid meter.

This electrode features a built-in microchip that stores sensor type, ID, and calibration information that is automatically retrieved by Edge once the electrode is plugged in.

Stored pH calibration information includes: calibrated buffers, date, time, offset and slope characteristics of the electrode.

The HI-10480 features an easy to plug in 3.5mm connector and is recommended for use in application specific purpose - wine. Suitable to use with samples that measure from 0 to 80°C.

Why measuring pH in wine is so important . . .

pH levels are important as it will affect the overall quality of the final product. Taste, colour, oxidation, protein & chemical stability, and yeast fermentation will all be affected by the pH level. A higher pH (above 4.0) can make the wine chemically unstable, a breeding ground for bacteria, and prone to spoiling quickly.

Three important factors in determining the pH of wine include the ratio of malic acid to tartaric acid, potassium levels, and the total amount of acid present. Most wines have a pH between 2.9 and 4.0 (different types of wine may differ). A low pH allows the wine to stay fresher for longer and maintain its colour and flavour.

  • Ideal pH for finished white wines: pH 3.00 to 3.30
  • Ideal pH for finished reds: pH 3.40 to 3.50
  • Before the fermentation process: pH 2.9 to 4.0

3.5 Connection – Phono plug electrode connection used on HANNA smart Edge electrodes. Provides a secure, easy-to-use connection.

All electrodes and probes have 6 months warranty.
