HI-767 Marine Nitrite Low Range Checker
HI-767
The HI-767 Checker is a portable, pocket-sized digital tester for measuring low-range nitrite within marine aquariums. This practical Checker uses a small 10 ml water sample from your fish tank that is combined with a reagent for accurate and reliable measurement.
This electronic tester features single-button operation for fast and easy use to produce precise, digital results, with a range from 0 to 999 ppb.
HI-767 Marine Nitrite Checker
The HI-767 Checker is a compact, accurate solution for measuring marine nitrite within saltwater aquariums. This digital tester has a single button for operation, providing a streamlined testing experience, and comes equipped with starter reagents to begin testing straight out of the box.
The HI-767 tester covers the low range of nitrite testing in marine and reef fish tanks, from 0 to 999 ppb (as NO–2-N). The Checker is powered by a single AAA battery for continual testing, with auto-shut-off to preserve the lifespan of the tester before battery replacement is required.
Why measure nitrite?
Nitrite is a standard part of the nitrogen cycle that occurs within all aquariums, where ammonia caused by waste and debris is broken down by bacteria through a biological filter. Any level of nitrite in your fish tank can be a risk to your fish, as this chemical can cause a condition known as ‘brown blood disease’. This disease is a result of nitrite binding with the haemoglobin in the bloodstream, reducing the amount of oxygen available to the fish and changing the colour of the blood.
Measuring nitrite in saltwater aquariums with a colorimeter tester is an ideal way to gain immediate insight into the condition of your water. A comprehensive range and reliable digital testing ensure nitrite can be measured accurately within your aquarium. As nitrite is not visible, careful monitoring is vital for preventing a build-up of this parameter.
How does the HI-767 work?
The HI-767 electronic aquarium tester for nitrite uses an adaptation of the EPA Diazotization method 354.1. The reaction between nitrite and the reagent causes a pink tint in the sample of water within the Checker, allowing the electronic tester to accurately determine the amount of nitrite within your aquarium.
The HI-767 includes a starter kit for reagents with 6 tests, so you can start testing the nitrite in your aquarium immediately out of the box.
Four steps to test
1. ‘Zero’ the Checker with your vial & 10 ml water sample inside
2. Take your vial out and add your reagent
3. Place your vial into your Checker
4. Press the button and read the results
Checkers vs test strips
Test strips are often considered the most cost-effective option for measuring aquarium parameters. However, these strips rely on your own perception of the results of testing, which can lead to inaccurate dosing of your water. Electronic testers, like Hanna Checkers, provide clear readings on a digital screen, providing the information you need to make precise measurements and correctly dose your water the first time.
