Useful Information
Sulphur Dioxide
Sulphur dioxide (SO₂) is added to alcoholic beverages, such as wine, to inhibit growth of bacteria and wild yeast, and as an antioxidant preventing browning. Some of the SO₂ is immediately bound in the wine when added, while the rest remains unbound (free SO₂), protecting the wine from unwanted microbes.
Sulphur dioxide content can be measured by titration, and Hanna supply a variety of automatic titrators for accurate determination of both free and total SO₂.
