Iodine portable photometer

The HI-96718 measures the Iodine content in water samples in the 0.0 to 12.5 mg/L (ppm) range.

Offering high levels of accuracy as well as being water resistant, portable and easy to use, this meter is hugely popular and is the optimum solution for quick, efficient and economical total hardness and pH measurement.

The disinfectant properties of Iodine have led to its use as an alternative to chlorine and bromine. Unlike chlorinated pools, water treated with iodine decreases eye irritation among swimmers, and provides a level of disinfection more stable to adverse conditions. However, its toxic and corrosive properties and the difficulties of dissolving it in water has limited its widespread acceptance.

This meter uses an exclusive positive-locking system to ensure that the cuvette is in the same position every time it is placed into the measurement cell. It is designed to fit a cuvette with a larger neck making it easier to add both sample and reagents. The cuvette is made from special optical glass to obtain best results.

Specifications

About the photometer
Range 0.0 to 12.5 mg/L (ppm)
Resolution 0.1 mg/L (ppm)
Precision ±0.1 mg/L ±5% of reading
Light Source Tungsten lamp
Light Detector Silicon photocell with narrow band interference filter @ 525 nm
Method Adaptation of the Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater, 18th ed.
PLEASE NOTE: In some cases, samples may contain other parameters which may interfere with results
Interference may be caused by: Bromine, Chlorine, Ozone, oxidised forms of chromium and manganese. Alkalinity above 250 mg/L and acidity above 150 mg/L as CaCO3 require neutralisation since the colour could instantly fade. To resolve this, neutralise the sample with diluted HCl or NaOH. In case of water with hardness greater than 500 mg/L CaCO3, shake the sample for approximately 2 minute after adding the reagent. Alternatively, wait for 2 minutes and 30 seconds then just press READ/TIMER. In both cases, the lamp, cuvette and detector icons will appear on the display, depending on the measurement phase.
