Refractometry is a measure of the refractive index of a substance. This is an optical property based on the dissolved particles in a sample, so can be used assess its composition or purity. It is typically used in the food and beverage industries for measuring sugar, alcohol or salt content, but can also be used for analysing the salinity of seawater or for ethylene and propylene glycol analysis.

Hanna’s wide range of digital refractometers are ideal for accurate measurement of refractive index and sample composition.
