Acidity is a measure of a water samples ability to neutralize added base (or alkali) to a set pH. Acidity is caused by chemicals in the water, such as mineral acids or carbon dioxide (CO₂) as carbonic acid, which can enter the water by industrial effluent or from CO₂ in the atmosphere.

It is important to measure acidity in lakes, rivers and sewers to determine the level of pollution in the water, and in soils and aquaculture to ensure the environment is suitable for optimum growth. Hanna provide a range of Chemical Test Kits and Titrators that are ideal for measuring acidity levels.
